My Important Issues

Elisa Ackerly Bio Information

My name is Elisa Ackerly and I’m campaigning to represent YOU in Tallahassee. I am so grateful that I have the support of my family through this experience. My husband, a firefighter and both of my sons, both football players, have been invaluable. We are fortunate to live on a peaceful hobby farm with our horses, dogs, and cats.

I’m running for office because I am deeply concerned about our children’s futures. We must ensure our kids have access to good schools, clean water, and quality jobs. Through my experiences as a serving member of the Board of Zoning Adjustment, The Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District, The Budget Committee for the Martin County School Board, and The Student Advisory Committee, I have the added bonus of proven leadership by way of experience. I have also solidified my views that we need to do better for our community, and for our future.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and please VOTE for me by mail, early, or on November 3rd!

Real Solutions for Real Issues

Public Education

Investing in Education is Investing in our Future.

  • I strongly believe we must strengthen our early education and Pre-Kindergarten programs.
  • We must properly fund our schools so every child has the resources necessary to learn.
  • I support a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs.
  • I support increased funding for trade schools, technical apprenticeships, and 2-year colleges.
All children MUST have access to a nutritious lunch.
  • Schools need additional support staff, including counselors, social workers, and classroom aides to support our educators and our students.

  • In the legislature, I will work to attract employers who offer living wages and steady jobs
  • I will protect and defend our right to unionize.
  • I support a sustainable, living wage for all – minimum wage in Florida is $8.46 per hour ($5.54 an hour for tipped employees). Working 40 hours a week at minimum wage, our residents simply cannot afford to pay rent, health insurance, for food, and for childcare. I support a $15 minimum wage.

Legalizing Marijuana

Many studies have showcased the abilities that marijuana displays as a medicinal aid, such as: regulating seizures and epilepsy, diabetes, aiding in the fight against cancer by way of chemotherapy. Marijuana also has the capability to aid the treatment of depression and anxiety, ease inflammation, chronic pain, Alzheimer’s disease, and PTSD symptoms.

Gun Laws

  • I am a pro-gun Democrat. I will defend our Constitutional right to bear arms.
  • As a mother, I think we can all agree there is a need to end gun violence.
  • I support closing the gun show loophole.
  • I own firearms and have a concealed carry permit.

  • We must protect our unique environment: it is vital for our health, it is vital for our tourism-based economy, and it is vital for our future in Florida.
  • I support integrating our federal, state, local, and private water testing processes to collect accurate information on our current water quality.
  • This is especially important in regards to the Lake Okeechobee issues regarding the toxic Blue Green Algae/Microcystin.

  • Healthcare is the cornerstone of well being.
  • I support preventative care programs, long term care programs, and putting People over Profits in our healthcare system.
  • The Covid-19 pandemic has made obvious the failings in our healthcare system. This is America – we can and MUST do better.
  • I will work to expand Medicare and Medicaid for our most vulnerable citizens.

Senior Care

  • With an aging population and a thriving retirement community in House District 82, caring for our senior citizens is a top priority for me.
  • If you are a senior citizen who is struggling with isolation, healthcare, or other issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic, please reach out to our campaign so we can connect you with the resources you need.
  • We need more Affordable Housing for Seniors, and we need to ensure seniors have access to transportation and healthy food. In Tallahassee, I’ll work to secure a Senior Transportation program.

Justice Reform

  • Our justice system needs reform – desperately.
  • My husband is a first responder and I appreciate the sacrifices of our law enforcement officers.
  • Incarcerated women face unique challenges in our criminal justice system. We must support incarcerated women and their families.
  • I support improving our reentry programs to ensure our returning citizens have information about their rights and access to necessary resources.
  • I strongly support 2018’s Amendment 4 and strongly oppose any form of an illegal ‘poll tax.’

Equality for All/Protections for LGBTQA

  • I will protect and defend your rights to worship, live, and love how you please.
  • I support the BLM Movement.
  • I support the LGBTQA+ Community.
  • I’ll work to eliminate discrimination in our schools, government agencies, and housing.

Women's Rights

  • I support the Equal Rights Amendment.
  • I will work to end job discrimination and ensure women are compensated fairly for their work.
  • The rates of domestic abuse and gender-based violence in our county is completely unacceptable. If you need help, please reach out to the Florida Department of Children and Families Domestic Violence Hotline: (1-800-500-1119) or TTY: (1-800-621-4202).

  • I support the William E. Sadowski Affordable Housing Act.
  • I’ll work to help create safe, mixed-income communities where everyone has a chance to succeed.
  • We must ensure everyone has access to a safe and secure place to call home.
